(Adverb)
use 'on the point of' (Br Eng) to talk about imminent events in the present and past.
ie. She's on the point of becoming a mother. / We were on the point of going out when Jane called.
(Clause)
describe hypothetical (counterfactual) current results of a past action or situation using 'would …' with the third conditional.
ie. If we'd bought that house we'd be so much better off now. / She would be here now if anyone had told her about the party.
use 'it is/was believed/reported that' + VP to report beliefs, rumors, etc.
ie. It's now believed that over 300 people died in the fire. / It was reported that the army had taken control of the capital.
add information using 'not only … but also …'
ie. The information is not only inaccurate, but also poorly presented.
order a sequence of events using an appended clause with present participle or 'having' + past participle.

make very polite requests with 'would you be so kind as to' + verbs in the infinitive.
ie. Would you be so kind as to lend me some money?
(Phrase)
ask questions with 'is it/was it' and complement clauses.
ie. What was it you wanted? / Where is it that you were brought up?
use a range of cleft sentences in the present, past and future.
ie. The fact is that we can't go. / What we’ll do is call the airport. / What we did in the end was to apologize.
express impersonal belief and opinion using 'thought/believed to …'
ie. He is thought/considered/believed/said to be …

use 'one' as a generic or impersonal pronoun.
ie. One should always do one's best.
use 'one's' as an impersonal possessive adjective.
ie. One should always do one's best.
